Regina Becker has a background in the ethical, legal and social implications of secondary use. She has focussed for many years on the ethical and legal side of data governance in reconciliation with the technical and scientific challenges and the approach to create a win-win approach. Becker is leading the legal implementation of the governmental 1+ Million Genome Initiative, a joint pursuit of 24 EU Member States as well as Norway and the UK to create a common harmonised genomic data space that could become a sub-space of the European Health Data Space. Prior to her work for the LNDS she worked at the University of Luxembourg and the European Bioinformatics Infrastructure ELIXIR. A physicist by training, Becker brings in the data science in parallel to the data protection and ethical components of processing sensitive data for research and innovation.
